There are 2 types of wood

  1. SOFTWOOD

  2. HARDWOOD



SOFTWOOD


WHAT IS SOFTWOOD? AND ITS USES

  • Softwood comes from coniferous trees. These trees are also known as evergreen trees as leaves do not fall till the new ones grow.

  • Softwood usually grows in regions having a cold climate. Coniferous trees grow fast; hence, they are less expensive as compared to hardwood.

  • Softwood trees, such as pine, cedar, spruce, larch, and fir, retain their leaves throughout the year and grow faster than hardwood.

  • They are more sustainable as they can be easily grown.

USES OF SOFTWOOD

Softwood is commonly used in construction


In the roof and inner wall structures as well as in other building components such as fixtures and fittings, doors.

HARDWOOD


WHAT IS HARDWOOD? AND ITS USES

  • Hardwoods come from any trees which do not produce needles or cones. These trees are most commonly are known as deciduous trees, more scientifically known as angiosperms.

  • Hardwoods are trees which produces leaves and seeds.

  • Hardwood species are not always necessarily stronger than softwoods, but many species are well known for their beautiful and distinct wood grain patterns.

USES OF HARDWOOD

Hardwood is commonly used in construction

  • In furniture such as tables, chairs, chest drawers

  • It may also be used in applications such as window frames.
